new year

New Year, Same Me

Greetings and salutations! I hope everyone’s holiday and subsequent return back to work was happy, healthy, and productive.

Over the past couple of months I have been sitting here racking my brain about the form and function I would like the blog and podcast to take. With the podcast, I tend to neglect the blog, leaving a lot of the day to day content to Quinzel. I started blogging as a way for me to have a creative writing outlet from my job. Because baybee, let me tell you, I am in the wrong job.

As I get older I am realizing more and more the fact that I have no creative outlet in my job is straight stifling me. Add to the fact I am not a huge fan of taking orders, you can see that I am not doing super great in corporate America.

Here are my goals. I would like the podcast and the blog to create income. Maybe not a lot of income at first, just enough to pay for the hosting of both. That would be awesome, because the blog hosting I pay triannually and it hurts.  I’d like to do both of these full time. That would make me happiest. In order to start generating profit I need to start putting out content regularly.  My goal is to sit down this weekend and see what is feasible for me. Something I do need is a consistent schedule. My hope is with a consistent schedule I can create more. I need to use the opportunities to write and reecord that I have. For example I am writing this while Geeky Baby is in her dance class. That is about 45+ minutes (minus shoe changes) of time a week I can use to write, plan, send email requests, etc. I need to start being mindful with my time which is truly a struggle for me. I literally will spend hours scrolling Facebook and retweeting on Twitter.  I want to reach out to creatives and learn their stories and present their stories to you. This means I need to actually nut up and speak to people.  I want to get better at interviewing. I want to do more. So I shall.

I hope you are ready to see more of me in 2020. I missed you .

A New Year for the Box Office

We all know about the big ones coming out like the new Marvel movies, but there might be a few gems heading to the theaters that may not get the hype or publicity as the big guns. Here is a list of some that look interesting for the coming first half of the year. Sadly, some of these may not have the strength to make it to a theater near you, but you should still keep an eye on their release to video.

The Adventurer: The Curse of the Midas Box

This is the story of a boy searching for his family, unknowing that this journey will lead him straight through unimaginable monsters and evil believed only as legend. This is based on the novel by G.P. Taylor titled Mariah Mundi: The Midas Box.

Knights of Badassdom

Basically, it is LARPing gone bad. Three best friends try to make their experience as real as possible and end up truly raising a little bit a hell in the process. The trailer doesn’t lead to much of what the film is actually about beyond highlighting the cast. Names like Steve Zahn, Ryan Kwaten, Summer Glau, and Peter Dinklage are what give this movie some consideration, but in the end it may not be enough to carry it. This is one of those movies that has no middle ground. It will either be epic or completely horrible.

A Fantastic Fear of Everything

A former children’s author turned crime novelist forces himself into paranoia after researching various Victorian serial killers. It looks to be a quirky one, but I was sold at Simon Pegg.

The Monuments Men

During World War II, a military outfit is sent out to retrieve stolen works of art and masterpieces from the Nazis. What makes this even more intriguing is that it is based on a true story.

The Grand Budapest Hotel

I should probably point out that this is a Wes Anderson film. In my experience, people are either fans of his movies, or they are not. This is the story of a concierge and his life at the hotel and with those he meets. I am clearly not doing the quick synopsis justice, but Wes Anderson films are random, which is the draw. You never really know what’s going to happen. I am personally excited for it.

Muppets Most Wanted

Yes, I know Disney will do its fair share of publicity for this movie, but I feel it will always need more. As long as tickets sell at the box office, they will continue to make them. A Muppets fan can’t argue with that logic. This newest installment has a Kermit lookalike switching places with our favorite green frog and trying to use the Muppets and the theater to achieve his nefarious plans.

Transcendence

A scientist has made great advancements in A.I., so much that he is now confident that he can map any human brain into a computer. People fearing the dangers of such an advancement attack the scientist with radiation leaving him to die slowly. If an effort to save him, his brain is mapped into a computer.

Happy New Years Everyone!

I hope everyone had a better holiday season than I did. Christmas ended up being okay, as I did not get sick until a day or two after Christmas. I was a hot mess. Eventually that cleared up, and I thought I was okay. Not so much. Right now I am still battling a wicked cold and the weirdest sore throat I have ever had in my life. During the day it is very mild. I keep having to clear my throat, no big right? Well around 5 pm, my right tonsil starts to swell, and it is incredibly painful. i have to pop two ibuprofin and suck on a couple of popsicles. Nuts!

You know how you get sick, and then shortly after taking a shower, you feel as if you can take on the world? That was me yesterday.

Isn't my turbie twist fabulous!? While sick, I found this etsy website by a woman called swarthy daisy. She was taking her business offline, so everything was 25% off. I got a ton of natural hair items, clips, combs, that wonderful turbie twist,  and a t-shirt! Let me show you a pic
Darling isn it? I won't look like that on me, as I am *cough* a chubbikin.
She is no longer in business online, but here is a link to her blog.
In other news, I am sure most of you by now have seen this video:
The girl who made it is totally ADORABLE. I just want to pinch her cheeks! She isn't a one trick pony either. She has a page on Facebook called  Shrink, Grow, and Learn where she talks about natural hair and showcases her other videos. Check her out!

In another twist, yesterday was Natural Hair day on twitter. I found this on CharyJay's (Shrink Grow and Learn) Facebook page. I thought it was interesting. The girl had a point.

Alright, I have to get dressed, get the dogs out, and get my desk cleaned up. I have one more week before school starts. and I want my desk cleared up so I have some place to actually work. LOL. Oh! So, my natural hair anniversary was some time in November. I had been working on a video, but I needed to set up my camera to capture the last part. I couldn't get the angle right with my little camera. I finally am going to have a working webcam with a mic here soon, so I will be able to finish that up (two months late).
